Alan Shearer has lauded Mikel Arteta after Arsenal’s impressive 3-1 win against Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.
The Gunners blew the title race wide open with an incredible victory in the north London against the league leaders, with Arsenal putting on a dominant display that Liverpool simply couldn’t handle.
The scoreline could have been worse for the Reds, with Arteta setting out the perfect game plan to counter Jurgen Klopp’s system in what was a genius tactical display from the Arsenal manager.
And writing for the Premier League’s official website, Shearer was full of praise for Arteta as the pundit named the Arsenal man the Manager of the Week having bested Liverpool.
Indeed, Arteta has come under some pressure this season for a few decisions the young manager has made, yet Sunday’s game plan against Liverpool will go down as one of the Arsenal figure’s best.
Shearer wrote: “He won the tactical battle and his substitutions also had a bigger impact than Jurgen Klopp’s as the Spaniard masterminded a huge win in the title race.

Having beaten Manchester City and now Liverpool this season, it’s interesting to note that the general public’s opinion on Arsenal winning the Premier League still seems uncertain.
Indeed, losses against the likes of West Ham and Fulham have done little to help the Gunners in their quest to reclaim English football’s biggest prize 20 years on from their last triumph.
Yet with Arteta now claiming two historic results for Arsenal this season, there’s every chance the north London side can now go on to win a few more big games on their way to the Premier League title.
And Sunday’s performance showed that Arteta is learning from his past mistakes, with the Arsenal manager now willing to shift from his original game plan to counter a specific opposing team.
