Alan Shearer was so impressed by Myles Lewis-Skelly’s performance versus Atletico Madrid and thinks he makes a huge difference to Arsenal’s team.
Lewis-Skelly has been superb over the last week since breaking back into the team following his display in midfield against Fulham.
🤔 Who starts the Champions League final in midfield: Myles Lewis-Skelly or Martin Zubimendi?
The teenager kept his place for the Champions League semi-final and once again looked outstanding in the middle of the park at the Emirates Stadium.
Following what has been a huge week for the 19-year-old, Shearer has been singing his praises and explained why Mikel Arteta must keep him in the team.
Alan Shearer on Myles Lewis-Skelly’s importance to Arsenal
Alan Shearer believes that Myles Lewis-Skelly’s willingness to play forward is making such a huge difference to Arsenal.
Arsenal have just enjoyed quite possibly their best week of the season so far after reaching the Champions League final and moving five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
It feels no coincidence that this has coincided with Lewis-Skelly being used in midfield, with the Gunners looking so much better in attack.
When asked about the teenager, Shearer told The Rest Is Football: “What a performance. You know what he does, Micah, very different to what Zubimendi does.
👀 True or False: Arsenal are so much better when Martin Zubimendi is BENCHED and Declan Rice starts in the six…
“When he gets the ball, his first thought is forward. Can I pass it forward? And I think that makes a huge difference for Arsenal.”
Arteta is now facing the dilemma of whether to keep Lewis-Skelly in midfield or to revert to Martin Zubimendi in the middle of the pitch.
Owen Hargreaves hails Myles Lewis-Skelly’s recent performances
Owen Hargreaves has also hailed Lewis-Skelly’s recent performances and thinks the teenager has added real energy to the team.
The former England international also claims that having Rice playing deeper has also helped Arsenal.
Hargreaves told TNT Sports: “I do like Declan playing a little bit deeper. I think he’s brilliant there. Credit Myles Lewis-Skelly, by the way.
“He’s coming, but barely played all season in midfield. I know he played there in the academy, but he’s giving that team a little bit of energy, a bit of fearlessness.”
