Alan Shearer has spotted something ‘incredible’ that Kai Havertz has started doing at Arsenal

In his career to date, Arsenal forward Kai Havertz enjoyed the most prolific goal-scoring campaign of his career back at Bayer Leverkusen in the 2018/19 season.

Domestically, Havertz netted 17 goals for Bayer in the Bundesliga, a total he’s yet to better at Arsenal.

Last season, the German netted 13 goals in 37 appearances, a respectable tally given he began in midfield and took some time to adapt at the Emirates Stadium.

For further context, Havertz highest Premier League tally for Chelsea was eight goals in the 2021/22 campaign, an indicator of how much he’s already improved in north London.

That being said, Arsenal’s star man has netted four goals in seven league appearances this season, suggesting that he might be on course for his most prolific campaign to date.

Kai Havertz is making life ‘awkward’ for defenders as he chases goalscoring record

That being said, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Alan Shearer was impressed by Havertz’s scoring but also wanted to celebrate several other areas of his game.

Shearer said the Arsenal forward was now constantly going into duels and making life ‘awkward’ for defenders, something he didn’t necessarily do at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “Yeah I think he’s really impressing me in terms of his performances and goals.”

Gary Lineker interrupted: “Scored every game at the Emirates this season.”

Shearer: “Yeah, incredible. He’s been a real centre forward not just his goals, but his hold up play, what he’s doing for the team, bringing players into the game, challenging for balls in the air, when perhaps he knows he might not win then.

“But he’s trying to make it awkward for defenders, so I’ve been really, really impressed with him this season.”

Former Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck downs Tottenham in memorable fashion

Of course, when mentioning Havertz and strikers who are thriving right now, it’s hard not to give a nod towards Danny Welbeck at Brighton & Hove Albion.

Welbeck was sensational against Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham on the weekend, inspiring a 3-2 comeback on the south coast that Gunners everywhere will have enjoyed.

At 33-years-old, Welbeck has also scored four goals in seven appearances in the Premier League so far this season, going neck and neck with Havertz in north London.

Welbeck appeared to troll Arsenal after Declan Rice’s red card last month, however, all will now be forgiven after the striker helped down Spurs in memorable fashion.

An excellent player who continues to improve his game despite heading towards the twilight years of his footballing career, a striker who is a real example for the likes of Havertz to follow.
