Alan Shearer is so impressed by Viktor Gyokeres’ goal-scoring form for Arsenal in 2026, after the striker came off the bench to score a brace against Sunderland.
Gyokeres now has six goals across all competitions for Arsenal in 2026, more than any other Premier League player.
Use ONE WORD to describe Viktor Gyokeres’ form at Arsenal right now… 👀
It still feels like the Swede has much to prove at the Emirates Stadium, but right now, it’s hard to argue against his goal-scoring record.
After the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Sunderland, Shearer has been discussing the striker’s form and his display off the bench on Saturday afternoon.
Alan Shearer on Viktor Gyokeres’ form at Arsenal
Alan Shearer believes the goals are finally starting to slow for Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal, and he was impressed by the striker, along with Gabriel Martinelli’s impact off the bench.
The pair combined nicely for the team’s third goal to seal a win, which moves the North London club nine points clear at the top of the Premier League.
“Arsenal used their squad strength; they brought on Gyokeres, they brought on Martinelli, they’ve got no Saka and Odegaard, who are out injured,” Shearer told BBC MOTD.
“Gyokeres comes on and gets his first goal there, then another substitute plays another huge part in the goal in Martinelli.

“It was a game Arsenal had to win. There was nothing spectacular about them, but they were very, very professional, and Martinelli put it on a plate for Gyokeres – there was no coming back from there. That is three big, big points for Arsenal.”
Meanwhile, the former Premier League striker was pleased to see that the goals are finally starting to arrive for Gyokeres.
Shearer added: “You can see Gyokeres there, with the most goals in all competitions in 2026, so the goals are starting to flow for him as well.”
Ahead of the match, Arteta told Gyokeres he would have a ‘huge impact’ and his decision to leave him for the second half proved spot on.
Alan Shearer hails Arsenal’s professionalism against Sunderland
Shearer also hailed Arsenal’s professionalism against Sunderland, as, despite not being pretty to watch, Arteta’s team got the three points.
“I think there are so many people waiting for them to slip up that when you see a performance like that today, it’s fine – they don’t have to be brilliant every game,” he said.
“They just have to find ways to win games, and they’ve done that today. No panic from their side at all.”
