Alan Shearer thinks that the Premier League title race would have been as good as over if Arsenal had beaten Bournemouth at the Emirates.

However, Mikel Arteta’s team are starting to falter just at the key moment of the season and suffered a shock defeat at home to the Cherries.

Next up for the Gunners is the biggest Premier League fixture of the season as they travel away to the Etihad to face Manchester City.

Ahead of next week’s mammoth Premier League clash, Shearer has been speaking about the title race and his honest thoughts on Arsenal’s chances.

Alan Shearer says Arsenal have put ‘huge pressure on themselves’ ahead of facing Man City

Alan Shearer thinks Arsenal have now put huge pressure on themselves ahead of facing Manchester City next week.

Following their huge win over Sporting CP in the Champions League, the former Premier League striker was expecting to carry on into the game against Bournemouth.

However, their performance was far from positive, and now heading into arguably the biggest week of the season, there is massive pressure on the North London club.

When asked about how crucial Man City versus Arsenal now is, Shearer told BBC Match of the Day: “Yeah, I mean it’s a huge game again, as they all are at this stage of the season. Arsenal have had this lead, but City have been doing really well and putting pressure on them.

“I thought because of their performance in midweek and Lisbon, they didn’t play very well, but they got a really good result, and I thought the positivity from that would have carried on today.

“I thought if they won that game (versus Bournemouth) today, it was as good as over, but they’ve put themselves under huge pressure again.”

The Gunners will be hoping that Man City will drop points against Chelsea, but if they don’t, the gap will be cut down to six points ahead of next week’s clash.
