Alan Shearer has questioned the lack of consistency over VAR following West Ham United’s disallowed goal against Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta’s team’s blushes were saved by VAR, who opted to rule out Callum Wilson’s 95th-minute equaliser during one of the biggest games of the season.

Was this the most nerve-racking moment you’ve ever experienced as an Arsenal fan? If not, what was? 😬

In the end, Leandro Trossard’s goal proved to be the decisive moment in the match to help the Gunners remain top of the Premier League table.

Following the 1-0 win at the London Stadium, Shearer has been talking about the incident which helped Arsenal to claim all three points.

Alan Shearer slams VAR’s lack of consistency after Arsenal vs West Ham

Alan Shearer has admitted that he is unhappy with VAR’s lack of consistency after West Ham’s equaliser was ruled out in stoppage time.

VAR told Chris Kavanagh to go to the monitor to review a potential foul on David Raya, and following a review, the referee opted to award Arsenal a free-kick.

However, as the former Premier League striker points out, there have been several similar incidents where the technology has opted not to get involved.

Speaking about the incident on The Rest Is Football, Shearer said: “Yeah, that’s where we are with it. I guess some people will think it was a foul, some won’t.

“Some people will think, where on earth is consistency, because we see something like that every single week.

“I do think it was a foul, but I also think the one at Everton last week with Bernardo Silva, when that wasn’t given in terms of holding clearly the defender, was VAR for that one?

“It was the first game of the season as well at Old Trafford, wasn’t it? But yeah, that’s where we are with it.”

Mark Clattenburg exclusively told Arsenal Insider that VAR was correct to send Kavanagh to the monitor and that a foul was awarded.

However, many opposition fans and Shearer have been left questioning why the technology opted to get involved when it did, but not in incidents early this season.

Riccardo Calafiori scored a header away at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League season, and there was a fair amount of controversy over that being allowed to stand.

But in the end, VAR correctly did its job at the London Stadium, and Arsenal just need to enjoy being on the positive end of a decision this time.
