Injury update
Alexis Sanchez trained with the Chile squad this week after initially being injured. Arsene Wenger has said if it’s just a kick on his ankle then Sanchez will play against Argentina, however if the ankle is swollen it could be ligament damage, which would mean he won’t play a part against the Argentines.
Petr Cech however has not been so lucky and faces a month on the side lines with a calf injury. Cech was injured during the Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion.
Cech is due to miss matches against Manchester City, West Ham, and Crystal Palace in the league. It could mean a chance for David Ospina to impress and if rumours are to be believed, a chance to put himself in the shop window if he does leave in the summer.
Transfer news
According to reports, Arsenal target Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to move to Atletico Madrid once their transfer embargo has been lifted after a verbal pre-agreement with Diego Simeone. The 25-year-old Frenchman has been in excellent form once again for Lyon scoring 28 goals in 34 appearances.
More rumours, this time of Arsenal’s interest in signing Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne, with the Gunners set to offer the 25-year-old €5m a year contract to move to the club. Wenger is interested in the player as a possible replacement for Alexis Sanchez who looks set to leave the club in the summer.
Another rumour doing the rounds is Arsenal’s need for a new goalkeeper next season. This time Jack Butland has been mentioned as a possible option. The Stoke keeper has not long returned from injury, but so far has played down any talk of him leaving the Britannia Stadium in the summer.
Bellerin
Hector Bellerin has admitted it’s nice that a lot of big clubs are interested in him but if one of them was Barcelona that would be special. Bellerin was 16 when he signed for Arsenal from Barcelona, having played in the Spanish sides youth teams. It seems a possible bid from Barcelona maybe too difficult for the full back to turn down.
Wenger news
It’s almost a daily feature now, but today Wenger has denied he has been offered a two-year contract by Paris Saint-Germain to become their new manager for next season. Wenger announced this was ‘fake news’ from the press and his decision on Arsenal will be announced very soon. It seems the 67-year-old French man is due to sign a new contract with Arsenal, with a two-year deal on the table should Wenger want it.
Ozil off
Mesut Ozil has apparently been offered a route out of Arsenal with Turkish club Fenerbache considering making an offer. With Ozil still stalling on a new contract and underperforming, Wenger is keen to sell on the German international. There are also rumours that Ozil is planning to marry Miss Turkey Amine Gulse, so a possible move to Turkey makes sense. That is when you are newspaper putting two and two together of course.
Da Graca gone?
Swedish youngster Kristopher da Graca has apparently joined Genoa on loan for the rest of the season although there has been no official announcement from Arsenal. Da Graca joined the club in 2014 from Swedish side Hisingsbacka, but has failed to make a first team appearance. The 19-year old’s contract is due to expire in the summer with both PSG and Newcastle having shown an interest earlier in the season.
