Ally McCoist finally raises what everyone is forgetting about Man City and Arsenal

The discourse surrounding the Premier League title race has been nothing short of frustrating this week.

On matchday 24, Jamie Redknapp said the title race is ‘done’, but a week later, his Sky Sports partners flipped the narrative in Manchester City’s favour.

Gary Neville said that Man City are back in the title race after matchday 25 concluded, and what’s funny about that is the way in which the tale is being told.

The points difference on matchday 24 was six, and the points difference on matchday 25 was six, so ultimately, nothing changed.

What caused the hysteria was Man City’s first win at Anfield since 2003, but what did it really mean for Arsenal?

Arsenal fans, what did you think of Gary Neville’s comments during Man City’s win over Liverpool?

Ally McCoist says what everyone is forgetting about Man City in the title race against Arsenal

Had Man City lost to Liverpool, Arsenal would’ve had a nine-point lead in the title race with 13 games to go.

Even Bernardo Silva admitted that a nine-point lead would’ve ended the title race early, but with the gap narrowed to six points, the narrative has changed.

City’s win at Anfield was a spirited comeback that will, naturally, give Pep Guardiola’s side momentum; however, what nobody is addressing is how poor the game actually was.

Well, it was no one, until Ally McCoist shared his opinion on City’s win when speaking to Jeff Stelling on talkSPORT.

“I was looking at Manchester City, brilliant comeback, terrific end to the game, showed wonderful spirit, but up to that point, I didn’t really see anything that would have Mikel Arteta and Arsenal shaking in their shoes.”

While certain pundits relished the idea of City chasing Arsenal in the title race, McCoist dodged sensationalism and stated the reality: City aren’t that great.

If you were an Arsenal player watching Man City vs Liverpool, what would you have said to yourself?

“Yes, the result was great for City and clearly not the one Arsenal would’ve wanted,” he continued.

“Would Arsenal be sitting up saying, ‘Wow’, I don’t think so. They’ll look at recent results and performances, and say, ‘I think we can handle this’.”

Arsenal are still the favourites to win the title, not just because of their six-point advantage, but because the Gunners are the best side in the Premier League right now.

The major difference between Arsenal and Man City

Aside from the six-point lead, Arsenal have an advantage over City that reveals the key difference between the two squads right now.

Arsenal are superior defensively, which is why they’ve lost only three games this season, and why no team is even close to the 17 goals they’ve conceded.

On the flip side, Man City have conceded 24 goals, and usually, they’d make up for that by scoring at the other end, but even in that department, Arsenal are within arm’s reach.

The goal difference between Arsenal and City tells the tale, with Arsenal having a difference of 32 and City 27.

13 games remain, and those 13 games will be treated as cup finals by both clubs, but who will be top in May?
