Ally McCoist believes missing chances doesn’t bother Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres
Speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the opening matchday of the new Champions League campaign, McCoist has praised Gyokeres for his attitude towards missing chances.
The Swede has scored two goals so far this season but has also endured a couple of frustrating outings against Manchester United and Liverpool.
He starred in Sporting Lisbon’s demolition of Manchester City in Europe last season, scoring a hat trick and McCoist immediately saw something he liked.
McCoist stated: “There was nobody who complained about Arsenal not having a centre forward more than me, they’ve got one now.
“We saw him against City in Lisbon and he played really really well. What I liked about him is that he probably missed two or three chances early on but kept going and going.
“I don’t think missing bothered him, which is vitally important, I don’t think missing bothers him that much.”
Viktor Gyokeres will enjoy more success in Champions League for Arsenal
Gyokeres will be excited by the return of the Champions League given that he is likely to have more space to run in behind defences.
Nottingham Forest are likely to defend deep in the upcoming Premier League match and Gyokeres struggled for Sweden playing against similar low blocks.
| Viktor Gyokeres’ Champions League record | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Gyokeres | 8 | 6 | 0 |
However, in Europe, teams are more likely to attack the Gunners and that is where the likes of Martin Odegaard can then feed Gyokeres in behind.
He already showed his trademark finish against Leeds United, running down the left flank and cutting in to finish.
Arteta will be hoping that is more of a regular occurrence as the 27-year-old continues to settle into his new surroundings.
