Ally McCoist has highlighted the one skill Arsenal star Kai Havertz needs to improve on if he’s to lead attack more efficiently for Germany.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder again started in the striker position for the Euro 2024 hosts last night in Dortmund against Denmark, where Havertz scored from the penalty spot in a 2-0 win to progress Germany to the quarter-finals.
Winning praise from Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, it was a good performance from Havertz, with the former Chelsea man arguably needing the display and the goal, after being slammed by the German media for his performance in Die Mannschaft’s group stage game against Switzerland.
Yet McCoist noticed something in Havertz last night that the versatile forward can work on to improve.
Havertz told to work on his composure after missing numerous chances
Speaking on ITV’s coverage of the match, McCoist noted how Havertz working on his composure could be all it takes for the Arsenal man to transform into a top striker for both club and country.
Whilst Havertz did score on the night, the former Chelsea man also missed a number of good chances that could have extended Germany’s lead, with McCoist saying that better composure from the Arsenal star might be needed.

McCoist said when asked about what’s the one thing Havertz can work on in leading the attacking line: “Composure, the finish there is the perfect example of not realising you’ve got a split second to make your mind up.
“99 times out of a 100 centre-forwards will have a split second to think ‘there, I have it’, but there he hits the side-netting, and it’s a poor finish when he has that split second to compose himself.”
Mikel Arteta will have to work on Havertz at Arsenal this summer
Mikel Arteta has clearly had an impact on Havertz’s form since the German’s move to north London, with the 25-year-old adjusting to life at Arsenal and enjoying an incredible second-half of the season at the Emirates Stadium.
Yet heading into the new campaign, it’s obvious that Arteta needs to get his hands on Havertz and to work on more aspects of the attacking midfielder’s game, with the former Bayer Leverkusen talent clearly someone with a future as a striker.
Given Arteta’s previous work already on improving attackers to find their goalscoring touch, assisting Havertz could be achievable for Arsenal boss, who could finally settle on his new leading striker without having to touch the transfer market this summer.
