Andre Harriman-Annous has become a household name after making his full Arsenal debut in the Carabao Cup.

The teenager was a surprise starter for the North London giants against Brighton at the Emirates, and he had a solid game.

Mikel Arteta greeted him with a big smile when he came off in the second half. The Gunners boss was clearly impressed, and we’re sure he will get more opportunities in the coming months.

Everyone at Arsenal is delighted to see Harriman-Annous’ progress, but nobody really expected it to happen so quickly.

Andre Harriman-Annous’ progress at Arsenal has been quicker than expected

Andre Harriman-Annous joined Arsenal when he was around eight years old.

The youngster started off at Whetstone Wanderers before joining Tottenham Hotspur when he was seven. He spent a little over a year there before securing his dream move to the red half of North London.

Harriman-Annous, who has been an Arsenal fan all his life, worked his way up in the academy and was always seen as a player with a lot of talent.

However, over the last 18 months, the teenager has exploded and made a tremendous name for himself behind the scenes at the club.

After his debut, Sky Sports have revealed that coaches at Arsenal did not anticipate Harriman-Annous’ progress to happen this quickly.

What coincided with his development in that 18-month period was a position change. He was moved to play as a striker even though his natural position is out wide or in a number 10 role.

Harriman-Annous played up top against Brighton. It will be interesting to see if Arteta will continue using him there in the coming months and years.

Harriman-Annous caught Mikel Arteta’s eye in Arsenal’s pre-season

Harriman-Annous’ brilliant performances in the academy earned him a place in Arsenal’s pre-season tour squad in the summer.

Everyone was raving about Max Dowman for his performances then, and rightly so, but Arteta liked what he saw from Harriman-Annous as well.

“Since pre-season, when he was with us, I was very impressed with him,” Arteta said in his press conference after the win against Brighton.

“First of all, his mentality, how much he wants it. That’s the first ingredient. He’s desperate to achieve his dream.

“I think he has been very consistent, training with us and constantly giving us the option to pick him. I believe today was the right day for him, for the context, for the way he’s playing as well. He certainly proved he has got a chance.”
