Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has the difficult task of getting a result over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The North London Derby is the biggest game of the season for the two sets of fans. It’s always a great spectacle and we’re sure the game on Wednesday night will be a special occasion once again.
Arsenal are going into the derby on the back of two consecutive defeats in the cups, while Tottenham won both of their games ahead of the clash at the Emirates.
That has given rise to the narrative that Arsenal are not in a good place at the moment, but Postecoglou is having none of that.
Ange Postecoglou says he won’t buy into claims that Arsenal are struggling
The two defeats against Newcastle and Manchester United have really dampened the mood around Arsenal.
The Gunners did enough in both games to get wins, but their finishing in front of goal let them down. That is the only reason why they lost the two fixtures.
Tottenham have won just twice at the Emirates Stadium since it opened in 2006. Their record is terrible there, but some of their fans are still hopeful of getting a win.
That’s because of Arsenal’s recent defeats, but Postecoglou says he disagrees with the assessment that the Gunners are struggling right now.
He said, as relayed on HatersTV: “Their form until the last couple of games was pretty compelling. if anything, I was reading how they turned things around pretty significantly and I think they had.
“Once Odegaard came back into their team, they were looking very, very strong. Look at their results. It’s really the last couple of games where people have sort of all of a sudden dropped off them.
“That’s the nature of football these days. It’s like a week, 10 days (of bad results) and all of a sudden somebody who people were saying was flying, all of a sudden is struggling.
“I don’t buy into that! I still think they are one of the top teams in the country, they have got some fantastic footballers, they are well organised, they work hard for each other and it’s going to take a massive effort from us to knock them over.”
Ange Postecoglou has taught some Arsenal fans a big lesson
The overreaction since the two defeats has been difficult to watch.
Some fans have already given up on the season, while a small yet loud group of people have started calling for Arteta to be sacked. That is absolutely ridiculous.
Postecoglou is spot on with his assessment. Arsenal had gone 13 games unbeaten in all competitions before the defeat to Newcastle, scoring 33 goals and conceding just 10.
Yes, the two defeats are disappointing, but Arsenal are still among the best teams in the Premier League and even in Europe. They can beat any side on their day and are more than capable of smashing Tottenham in the derby.
Postecoglou’s comments above should act as a lesson to Arsenal fans who have been going overboard over the last week.
