Arsenal fans all know how much Mikel Arteta loves an inverted full-back, and he may now have the next big thing in Lino Sousa.

That’s off the back of Sousa being named in Arsenal’s Champions League squad yesterday.

Sousa’s name was a surprise addition to Arsenal’s squad.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

And whilst there was a certain necessity to include Sousa on Arsenal’s senior list, he’s not eligible as a B list player, he is there on merit.

The 18-year-old has been catching the eye with his performances for Arsenal’s under-21s in the Premier League 2.

Sousa can often be seen marauding into central midfield from the left and looks so composed in the process.

A role that Joao Cancelo made famous at Manchester City, and it looks like Sousa could follow in his footsteps.

Of course the inverted king at Arsenal is Oleksandr Zinchenko.

A title that would be seriously under threat were it not for a really unfortunate injury to Jurrien Timber.

And although Takehiro Tomiyasu now looks like an exciting option as an inverted full-back, Sousa may really have an opportunity at Arsenal.

Arsenal’s Sousa could be Arteta’s next inverted star

Although opportunities may be hard to come by in the Champions League, Sousa does now seem close to the first team.

Arsenal’s rise under Mikel Arteta into an elite side has had one slightly worrying aspect.

The gap between the first team and Arsenal’s academy now looks bigger than ever.

But with a lot of squad players offloaded at the end of the transfer window, there may now be a path for the likes of Sousa under Arteta.

Arsenal will have plenty of games this season and it really wouldn’t be a surprise to see Sousa play alongside the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Amario Cozier-Duberry.

There’s abundance of talent for Arteta in Arsenal’s academy, and Sousa as inverted full-back may be a really exciting option.
