Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has reflected on his recent heated clash with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson.

In the dying minutes of Arsenal’s recent 1-0 win over Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, Gabriel Jesus sought to waste a few seconds by rolling the ball away after the visitors were awarded a free kick deep in their own half.

In response to this, Ederson barged his compatriot to the floor. Both players were subsequently shown yellow cards for the exchange.

Jesus and Ederson are now on the same side once more, as they are both currently away from their clubs on international duty with Brazil. The national team hierarchy will have been hoping that there were no lingering resentments between the two players as a result of this incident in their last Premier League encounter.

Jesus, for his part, has insisted that all is well between the pair. Discussing the push incident, the £265,000-a-week attacker said, “I have a good relationship, not just with Ederson but on the pitch it’s normal. Ederson and I spent a lot of time together at City and we were very happy. He knows how fond I am of him and I also know how fond he is of me. But on the pitch he defends his team and I defend mine. It was a moment when we [Arsenal] were winning and it’s not easy to beat them,” as quoted by Football.London.

Arteta looking for Jesus to use his experience

Jesus will certainly know Ederson well, given he spent five seasons on the books with him at the Etihad Stadium, prior to his £45 million move to Arsenal in 2022.

Mikel Arteta won’t have minded Jesus seeking to waste time against City at that stage in the match, but he will be relieved that the 61-cap Brazil international didn’t react to Ederson’s shove in a manner likely to land him in even further trouble.

Having gotten this long-awaited victory against Pep Guardiola’s side under their belts, Arsenal will feel a renewed since of confidence in their prospects of mounting a successful title challenge this season. Jesus knows what it takes to win a title, having won four in his time at City. That winning experience will be a valuable commodity in the Arsenal dressing room this season.
