Arsenal have announced their 21-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season, but our three young gems – Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba – are not part of that list.
That, however, isn’t something to be worried about as the trio are joined by 65 others in the U21 list, who are all eligible to feature for Arsenal in the Premier League this term.
Here’s a look at the players Mikel Arteta has named.
Arsenal announce 21-man Premier League squad
Arteta has decided on his 21-man squad for the next few months of the Premier League season.
Unlike the 2020/21 campaign when Mesut Ozil was snubbed, the squad this time around is free of any controversy, but there are two academy stars who have made the cut – George Lewis and Matt Smith.
Here’s the 21-man squad in full:
Goalkeepers: Aaron Ramsdale, Matt Turner
Defenders: Gabriel Magalhaes, Rob Holding, Ben White, Kieran Tierney, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Cedric Soares
Midfielders: Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Emile Smith Rowe, Mohamed Elneny, Fabio Vieira, Matt Smith
Forwards: Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, George Lewis
Saka, Martinelli and Saliba among 68 players named in the U21 list
Arsenal are allowed to name first-team stars, academy players and even this year’s scholars in their U21 Premier League list as long as they fulfil the age criteria.
68 players have been named in total, but the most famous ones are Saka, Martinelli and Saliba, who even though are first-team regulars now, qualify to be on the U21 list thanks to their age.
The other notable names on the U21 list are Marquinhos, Miguel Azeez, Folarin Balogun, Khayon Edwards, Marcelo Flores, Charlie Patino, Kido Taylor-Hart, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Reuell Walters.
