Arsenal are still on the hunt for a new sporting director.
Edu Gaspar resigned from his role at Arsenal in November last year. It has been nearly four months, but the Gunners are yet to find a replacement.
Jason Ayto has been in interim charge, but the 40-year-old’s inability to bring anyone in during the winter transfer window has raised serious concerns.
Arsenal need to appoint a new sporting director, and there is now an update on one of their targets.
Arsenal are pushing to appoint Luis Campos as the new sporting director
Luis Campos is one of the biggest names among sporting directors in football.
The 60-year-old currently works as a strategic advisor at Paris Saint-Germain, where he has overseen the transition following the departures of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Campos’ contract at the French capital expires this summer, and the Portuguese is attracting interest from two huge clubs in the Premier League.
Le10 Sport have revealed that both Arsenal and Chelsea are ‘exerting a lot of pressure’ to try and appoint the PSG chief. The Blues are even willing to make him their CEO of Football.
The report adds that Arsenal are also ‘pushing very hard’ to appoint Campos as Edu’s replacement ahead of the summer transfer window.
What’s more interesting is that Campos was reportedly in London on Saturday, fueling speculation that he could be at the helm of one of Arsenal or Chelsea after his PSG adventure comes to an end.
Why Luis Campos is exactly who Arsenal need
Edu did a tremendous job at Arsenal during his time at the club.
The Brazilian’s departure came at a bad time, but the Gunners had to take it on the chin and move on. Now, they need someone who is even better than their former director.
Campos would be perfect for that role.
The 60-year-old, who discovered and helped develop the likes of Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabinho, Nicolas Pepe and even Arsenal’s own Gabriel Magalhaes, has been one of the best in the business for over a decade now.
Campos will not only aid Mikel Arteta in helping sign hugely talented young players, but his contacts will open the door for some huge signings as well.
Nobody knows who the Kroenkes will pick, but we think Campos would be a fantastic option.
