Football’s lawmakers are trialling a new rule that could make Arsenal the best team in the world.
The Gunners are already among the toughest sides on the planet. They have challenged for the Premier League title in each of the last two seasons and are expected to be involved again this time.

Arsenal are already so good and are striving to be even better. One potential new law could take them to a whole new level if it gets implemented.
New on-trial football law could massively benefit Arsenal
The International FA Board (IFAB) is responsible for all the rules in football, and they can implement new ones to better the game.
Football could do with several changes to take the game to the next level, and there are often several debates among fans over the existing laws.
One of the most frustrating things in football is time wasting. Teams who are either looking for a draw or are trying to protect their lead often resort to delaying restarts as much as they can.
Arsenal have done it at times too, but the Gunners have been on the wrong end of time wasting a lot more. That has been really annoying.
Now, The Times reveal that the lawmakers are trialling a new rule that would punish goalkeepers if they hang on to the ball for more than eight seconds.
If this rule is implemented, “referees will award a corner to the opposition if a goalkeeper holds on to the ball for too long”.
The current law allows referees to award an indirect free-kick if the goalkeeper delays a restart, but we’ve never seen that enforced.
Arteta and set-piece coach Nicolas Jover will be licking their lips over the prospect of this rule being made official as it would massively benefit Arsenal.
Arsenal could become title favourites if the new law is implemented
Arsenal are the masters of set-pieces in Europe, and this has been the case since the start of the 2023/24 season.
Arteta’s men have scored 22 goals from corners in that period. That makes them the highest-scoring team from corners in the Premier League as well as Europe’s top five leagues.
If a law is established which would gift Arsenal more corners than they normally get in games, we’re sure they will take advantage of it.
That would make a huge difference, and Arsenal could become the favourites to win the title every season because of that.
