Arsenal were handed a shock when sporting director Edu Gaspar resigned from his role last week, and they are now searching for a replacement.
Edu was in his role for over five years, and helped Mikel Arteta rebuild the Arsenal squad into one which challenged Manchester City for the title.
Arsenal are now on the lookout for an experienced sporting director who can help take their squad building to the next level. There have been links with former midfielder Tomas Rosicky, but Arsenal fans are concerned about his lack of top-level experience.
The Gunners may now have been handed a boost, as one esteemed director could now be available, and he might be a perfect fit for Arsenal.

Real Sociedad director of football Roberto Olabe announces exit
The Athletic have now reported that Real Sociedad director of football Roberto Olabe has announced that he will step down from his role at the La Liga side at the end of the season.
This has reportedly put Europe’s leading clubs on “high alert,” and with Arsenal the club most notably looking for a director, they will likely be very interested.
Olabe has been in his role since March 2018, and has overseen an incredible period of success at the club, who won the Copa Del Rey in 2020, and returned to the Champions League after a decade away last season.
Olabe has had some excellent transfer success at the Basque side, and is very familiar with some of Arsenal’s players.
Roberto Olabe already has several Arsenal links
In his time at La Real, Olabe signed Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid, and Mikel Merino from Newcastle. Both midfielders are now playing for Arsenal.
He also signed long-term Arsenal target Alexander Isak from Borussia Dortmund, where he also played alongside Merino, and outcast defender Kieran Tierney was also brought to Real Sociedad under his guidance.
Given Arteta’s Basque roots, Olabe could be a perfect fit to work in tandem with the Spaniard, and he could seamlessly enter a role where he is already familiar with several Arsenal players.
