Arsenal defender Auston Trusty has won the Supporters’ Player of the Season award at Birmingham City this week.

The American joined us from MLS side Colorado Rapids in January last year. He was sent back there on loan until the end of the season, and he then secured a season-long move to Birmingham City last summer.

Why Pele Is Overrated.

Arsenal loanee Auston Trusty wins Supporters’ Player of the Season award

Not many people knew who Auston Trusty was when Arsenal signed him last year.

The defender had played just about 100 games in America and had no experience whatsoever in Europe. Many even felt this was just Arsenal’s way of expanding their market in the United States.

Trusty was sent out on loan to Birmingham City last summer, and it’s fair to say he has surprised everyone. He has missed just two games all season and has been one of the best defenders in the Championship.

Blues fans absolutely love Trusty, as does their manager John Eustace. He has now been recognised by the supporters there, who voted him as their Player of the Season for the 2022/23 campaign.

“Thank you to the club and fans that have made Birmingham feel like home since day one. I am so honored and grateful,” he wrote on Twitter after accepting the award.

What’s next for Trusty?

Trusty has really shown his class for Birmingham City in the Championship this season, and we’re sure he’ll be on the radar of multiple clubs this summer.

It’s unlikely that any Premier League side will consider signing him, but numerous clubs in the Championship will surely try to get him on loan.

Birmingham City could well try their luck again, but there’s a good chance a club aiming for promotion will be in the running for his signature in the next few months.

Trusty is yet to play for Arsenal, and it will be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta will give him an opportunity in pre-season after his impressive season out on loan.
