Arsenal set a new standard for themselves against West Ham United on Sunday.
Arsenal recorded their biggest ever Premier League away win as they demolished West Ham United 6-0 at the London Stadium.
To a man, Mikel Arteta’s men were brilliant against their east London opponents. Declan Rice caught the attention of Arsenal fans as he returned to haunt his former club, registering a goal and two assists. Bukayo Saka also reached a milestone in this match, becoming the first Arsenal player to achieve one particular feat since 1978.
Whilst West Ham were hapless, the Gunners deserve huge credit for taking full advantage. Goals from William Saliba, Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes, Leandro Trossard, and Rice ensured that it was a memorable trip for the Arsenal fans who made the journey to the London Stadium.
It should also be noted that Arsenal were able to pull off this history-making result despite the absence of some key players, as the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Thomas Partey, amongst others, were all sidelined for this match.

Record-breaking result gives Arsenal title race boost
On top of that, it was also vital that Arsenal made the most of this fixture to build on their landmark win against Liverpool last time out. Having beaten the Reds to revive their title hopes, the Gunners needed to consolidate that position further and maintain their positive momentum against the Hammers.
This win also gave the Gunners a huge boost in terms of goal difference, drawing them level with Manchester City in that regard, and only one strike behind Liverpool. Who knows how crucial that factor could prove come the end of the campaign.
This win sent out a message that Arsenal mean business. Liverpool and Manchester City certainly won’t be taking the Gunners’ presence in this title race lightly.
Next time out, Arsenal will travel to Burnley, in another must-win match. Given the title race is likely to be so tight, and Liverpool and Manchester City are both so strong, practically every remaining Premier League fixture this season will fall into that must-win category. There is so little margin for error left. That is a pressure that Arteta’s side must find a way to cope with, though it certainly didn’t look like something that was troubling them at all against West Ham.
