Arsenal do something for first time in 60 years that not even the Invincibles managed

Arsenal have been in sensational form in recent weeks, and their potency in front of goal has meant they have broken yet another record.

Despite calls for Arsenal to sign a striker in the January transfer window, a sudden upturn in attacking form has seen Arsenal score 25 goals in their last six Premier League matches, which have all ended in victory.

As a result, Arsenal now have more goals than Manchester City, and a better goal difference than anyone else in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s side are flying, and this bodes well for any potential title challenge. With the Gunners’ last taste of Premier League glory coming in 2004 with The Invincibles, there are now encouraging signs when comparing both teams after 26 games.

Arsenal’s goal tally after 26 Premier League games

Stat account Orbinho has now revealed on X that Arsenal’s current tally of 62 goals in 26 Premier League games is the highest they have managed at this point of the season since 1964, when they scored 69 after 26 First Division matches.

“Arsenal have scored more goals this season after 26 games than they have in any league campaign since 1963-64 when they had netted 69,” Orbinho posted on X.

This remarkable number is therefore higher than any goal tally they managed at this stage in Premier League history, including the Invincibles.

In 2003-04, Arsenal had scored 51 times in their first 26 games, 11 less than they have managed now. However, the Invincibles were obviously still unbeaten, and had six more points than Arteta’s side currently do.

Arsenal are not overreliant on anyone for goals

There may be questions about whether Arsenal’s current form is sustainable, but they have been clinical in recent games, with plenty of different goalscorers.

Whilst Bukayo Saka has been particularly potent in front of goal, unlike other teams, Arsenal are not reliant on an individual such as Mohamed Salah or Erling Haaland for their goals, whereas even the Invincibles still had Thierry Henry leading the scoring charts.

There are clearly enough goals to go around, with the likes of Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes and Leandro Trossard chipping in during this recent run of form, and this may mean that one unfortunate injury would not derail Arsenal’s title challenge again.

To score as many as they are, despite being criticised for a lack of a clinical forward, shows what an incredible attacking unit Arsenal have been under Arteta this season.
