Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka featured for England as they fell to defeat against Spain in the Euro 2024 final on Sunday evening.
England have now lost successive European Championship finals. In 2021, the Three Lions lost on penalties against Italy at Wembley Stadium. This time around, having reached a final on foreign soil for the first time ever, Gareth Southgate’s side were undone by Spain.
Arsenal attacker Bukayo Saka was a bright spark on the ball, but was a peripheral figure for long periods throughout the match as Spain dominated possession.
Arsenal fans have insisted that Saka has been one of England’s outstanding players throughout the Euros. He was also able to make a tangible impact on this match, as his good work in the 73rd minute ultimately led to Cole Palmer’s equaliser.
It is certainly the case that Saka was able to outshine his Arsenal teammate Declan Rice. England fans felt that Rice fell far short of his best against Spain.
However, it is true that neither Saka nor Rice were able to hit the heights that they so regularly have under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal for Southgate’s England throughout this competition.

Arsenal fans share thoughts about Bukayo Saka after Spain 2-1 England in Euro 2024 final
After the final whilst confirmed England’s heartbreak, plenty of Arsenal fans took to X to show support for Saka.
One fan said: “Bellingham, Saka, Watkins and Palmer all showed up in crucial moments for England. Foden and Kane the golden duo never stood up in any moment England needed them to.”
Another added: “Bubble wrap Saka and Rice and send them to a beach.”
One claimed: “We go back to the tribalism of club football now but at least everyone has realised Saka is miles better than Foden.”
Another stated: “Atleast Saka won’t get the slander he showed up again in major tournament when they were trying to downplay his importance whilst the overrated frauds showed exactly who they are.”
The Hale End academy graduate can look back on his Euro 2024 performances with pride. Saka was even hailed by England legend David Beckham after his goalscoring and penalty shootout heroics against Switzerland.
