Many Arsenal supporters have now shared their feelings about comments Emile Smith Rowe made back in 2021.

Emile Smith Rowe is now on the verge of leaving Arsenal.

Fulham are close to signing Smith Rowe, meaning that the midfielder will leave Arsenal in this summer transfer window, having been on the books with the North London club since the age of ten.

The Hale End academy graduate holds a special place in the hearts of Arsenal fans, and will be much-missed by many at the Emirates Stadium. However, over the course of the last two seasons, which he has spent on the outskirts of Mikel Arteta’s squad, it has become clear that he needs to move on.

At this stage in his career, the 24-year-old needs to be playing regular football, and he will not get the opportunity to do so with the Gunners.

Arsenal fans upset by past Emile Smith Rowe comments

Smith Rowe clearly feels a close connection with the club. Back in 2021, having just established himself as a key figure in the team, he made his feelings about Arsenal clear.

As quoted by The Standard at the time, the 3-cap England international said: “If Arsenal want me for the rest of my career, then I am going to stay here forever. It is always difficult, but for me personally I’d love to be here forever.”

In light of his impending exit, these comments have now resurfaced, provoking a response from Arsenal supporters on X.

One fan said: “It’s extremely rare I keep following a player after they leave the club, but Emile Smith Rowe is certainly going to be one of them. He’s forever one of us and I hope he absolutely smashes it at Fulham.”

Another stated: “We all wish him well.”

One supporter claimed: “I’m not giving up hope that we may see him in an Arsenal shirt again one day. I still believe he is going to be a top player.”

One added: “I would love a buyback clause in his contract.”

Another chipped in with: “This is the saddest transfer in Arsenal’s modern history.”

One admitted: “Can’t stop crying.”

How will Arsenal replace Emile Smith Rowe?

With Smith Rowe expected to depart, Arsenal have been linked with Morgan Gibbs-White. The Nottingham Forest star is certainly a talented player, and would add creativity and goal threat to Arteta’s squad.

However, many Arsenal fans will be hoping that Hale End academy wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri is afforded the opportunity to step up and prove himself. There is a plan for Nwaneri to progress at Arsenal, and Smith Rowe’s exit will create an opportunity for that to happen.
