Arsenal fans have now shared their thoughts on Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

Arsenal have recently been linked with a January swoop for Amadou Onana.

The Toffees shelled out £33 million to French club Lille to bring Onana to the Premier League in the summer of 2022. The Belgian ace has developed his game since then, and has now established himself as one of the most promising talents in the top flight of English football.

The 22-year-old is a powerful presence in the middle of the park. An imposing figure, at 6’4”, Onana can be relied upon to win his duels and play his part in protecting the back four. He is also capable having an impact further up the pitch. However, this aspect of his game still has room for improvement, as he does not always make the right decision when seeking to play the ball in the final third.

Overall, though, Onana is a huge talent, and would be an exciting addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad at the Emirates Stadium. Everton’s own difficult financial situation could also force them into a sale this month should a fair offer for Onana come forward, despite the fact that Sean Dyche would almost certainly prefer to keep the nine-cap Belgium international on the books at Goodison Park.

Arsenal are due a midfield overhaul, with Thomas Partey, Jorginho, and Mohamed Elneny all approaching the end of their playing days. However, there is a strong argument that this January is not the time for Arsenal to focus their efforts on bolstering their options in the middle of the park.

Many fans feel that Arteta should have a new striker at the top of his winter shopping list. Taking to X to express this view in response to the links between the north London club and Onana, one supporter said, “Terrible signing. Need a striker no another plodding midfielder.” Another fan agreed, asking, “How many goals can Onana score for us?????…we need a top a striker.”

Another fan with similar concerns said, “I don’t think it should be a priority signing but have liked what I’ve seen of him at Everton.” One other fan questioned the decision to chase Onana, stating, “Why though? Doesn’t address our primary issue at all…”

One fan who felt particularly down on the rumour chipped in with, “I can see him flopping tbh, poor business from Arsenal.”
