Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta picked up yet another yellow card during his side’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
Mikel Arteta picked up his fourth booking of the season in the first half at the Emirates Stadium.
In his efforts to convince referee Tim Robinson to book Kaoru Mitoma, he was deemed to have crossed a line in terms of dissent. The Spanish coach was promptly shown a yellow card.
Arteta may well have had a valid point to make, but he needs to be more careful when it comes to his interactions with officials. He spent the Gunners’ last Premier League outing, against Aston Villa, watching on from the stands due to having received a one-match touchline ban for having accumulated three yellow cards.
He has also only just been cleared of all charges by the FA for comments he made after Arsenal’s defeat against Newcastle United earlier this season.
Arteta is well known for his energetic and exuberant touchline antics, and has been criticised for them before. There is certainly a sense that the former midfielder irritates some in the game, and he certainly doesn’t make life easy for referees.

Arsenal fans come to the defence of Mikel Arteta
Arsenal fans have now had their say on Robinson’s decision to show the manager a yellow card. Many feel that Arteta’s reputation now precedes him, making him vulnerable to harsh decisions being made against him.
One supporter said, “if it was someone else, ref wouldnt have shown the card in first place. Clearly pgmol and refs have agenda against us.” Another fan agreed, stating “So ridiculous…the agenda couldn’t be any clearer.”
One fan said, “Agenda is so clear.” Another echoed this frustration, claiming, “The refs have lost the plot LMAO.”
It will clearly be difficult for Arteta to change and adapt his behaviour, and there is a case to be made that he is being particularly harshly treated. However, for the good of the club, to avoid the additional attention and headlines that these booking generate, he has to make a concerted effort to avoid crossing referees in future.
