Many Arsenal fans have now all noticed something funny about the referee who will take charge of their clash with Porto this evening.
Clement Turpin will be the man in the middle when Arsenal host Porto at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening.
This is a huge fixture for the Gunners. The Portuguese outfit are heading into the second-leg of this Champions League round of 16 encounter with a 1-0 advantage on aggregate, after they snatched a late winner in the first-leg match at the Estadio do Dragao.
Arsenal will have to overcome this deficit and turn the tie around if they are to progress to the quarter finals of Europe’s elite club competition.
The north London club have the quality to get this job done, but will need to be at their best to do so. Mikel Arteta has also made it clear that the home fans will need to get behind the team. Arsenal will also be without some key players for this match due to injury.
Arsenal fans make hilarious observation about referee for Porto match
The Gunners will be hoping that the referee has a straightforward game, and that he does not make any controversial calls which harm the hosts’ cause. The 41-year-old Frenchman is an experienced official who has previously taken charge of matches at the 2018 World Cup and also oversaw the 2022 Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
However, putting his credentials aside for a moment, plenty of Arsenal fans have now noticed something else about Turpin – namely that he looks strikingly similar to Leandro Trossard, who may well feature for the Gunners against Porto.
Many Arsenal supporters pointed out the look-a-like quality on X, in response to an image posted of the referee. One fan referred to Turpin as “Trossard from Wish.com.” Another supporter called him “The real Trossard.” He was also referred to as “Trossard’s brother.”
One other fan quipped, “Trossard should be in the first 11 I want to confirm something.”
