Arsenal fans all think Mikel Arteta could use Eberechi Eze in the completely wrong position, it won’t work

Eberechi Eze has emerged as a serious target for Arsenal.

The Crystal Palace star is a phenomenal player, and we think he would be a really exciting addition to this Gunners side.

Most Arsenal fans, if not all of them, are fully behind the idea of signing Eberechi Eze this summer, but they are really worried about one thing.

Many supporters feel that Mikel Arteta could end up deploying the Englishman on the left flank, which is a position where he has played in before.

However, fans are adamant that he is better when he plays more centrally, and they have urged Arteta to use him as a number 10 or as a left-central-midfielder.

Arsenal fans are worried about Eberechi Eze playing on the left wing

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign a new left-winger this summer, even though they already have Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard there.

Rodrygo is the dream target for the Gunners, but Arsenal’s interest in Eze has led to fears among the fan base that Arteta will force him to hug the touchline on the left.

One Arsenal fan said: “I’m not saying Eze is not a better player, but the idea of him playing at LW Is not gonna work.”

Another said: “I hope the link about Eze is about making competition with Odegaard instead of pushing or playing him as LW.”

“If Eze comes in as a LW and not a midfielder. I can’t support the project anymore. Five years for this?” said another.

Another Arsenal supporter said: “I’d love Eze, but I feel like he won’t work at LW. Every goal he scores is in the box or just outside the box centrally.”

“He’s not a LW either. Playing him there is just as bad or worse than playing Odegaard at RW. Eze is a 10. Nothing has ever been more obvious,” said another.

Eberechi Eze’s stats playing as a left winger vs playing as a number 10

Eze can definitely play on the left-wing — he has done that on multiple occasions for Crystal Palace.

However, the England international’s numbers in an Eagles shirt prove that he is far better in a more central role.

If Arteta signs Eze and makes it a point to use him as a left-winger, the Arsenal manager will have to tweak his system and make his left-back overlap.

That would require a big change, as the Gunners’ left-backs usually invert to provide an extra man in the middle of the park.
