Arsenal fans have now had their say on how Bukayo Saka performed against Porto in their Champions League clash on Tuesday evening.

Bukayo Saka was far from his best as Arsenal ultimately beat Porto on penalties at the Emirates Stadium.

Plenty of credit ought to go to Porto left-back Wendell, who did a superlative one-on-one job on the 22-year-old Hale End academy graduate. However, even in spite of the Brazilian defender’s attentions, more would have been expected of the Arsenal man.

All evening Saka looked far from his best. He struggled to find space, lost far too many of his physical battles, and failed to ever really pose much of a threat to the visitors’ rearguard. The winger has generally been in exceptional form this season, and is a talismanic figure in north London, but more will have been expected from him by Mikel Arteta tonight.

Much has been made of whether or not Saka deserves to be considered a world-class player. If the England man wants to settle that debate once and for all, he needs to step up to the plate on nights such as this.

Ultimately, when it came to the penalty shootout, Saka held his nerve. He has been reliable from the spot for the Gunners this season, and he made no mistake as he fired the ball past Diogo Costa.

Arsenal fans have say on Bukayo Saka performance v Porto

Arsenal now have a nineteen-day break due to upcoming international fixtures. Saka will need to be back to his best when the Gunners face reigning champions Manchester City in their next Premier League outing.

Saka needs to learn from his struggles against Porto. He is still very experienced at Champions League level, and will now have a better idea of what it takes to shine on the biggest continental stage.

Plenty of Arsenal fans were quick to share their thoughts on Saka’s display, after passage to the quarter finals was assured. One supporter called it a “Hall of shame performance so far.” Another fan said, “Worse game I’ve ever seen from him.”

One supporter stated, “Poorest I’ve ever seen him play. He’s been so scared to take on Wendell. I think overall we’ve missed Martinelli on the other side.” Another claimed, “Saka & Saliba both been horrible today.”
