Arsenal fans have now had their say on what they saw from Jorginho against Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Jorginho produced a midfield masterclass as Arsenal beat Newcastle United 4-1 at the Emirates Stadium.
The midfield veteran was in sensational form against the Magpies. This was not the first time in recent weeks, either, that Mikel Arteta has called upon Jorginho to start a Premier League match and has been rewarded with an outstanding display from the former Chelsea man. He was also exceptional in the 3-1 win against Liverpool, when he proved that he can be the ideal partner for Declan Rice in the middle of the park.
As things stand, the 32-year-old is set to become a free agent this summer. There has been plenty of clamour recently for Arsenal to extend Jorginho’s contract and keep him at the Emirates Stadium for next season. Those demands are only going to grow louder in the wake of his performance against the Tyneside outfit.
The Arsenal boss clearly appreciates the Italian international’s quality. Arteta has previously credited Jorginho as being one of the most intelligent players that the has ever worked with.
Arsenal fans wowed by Jorginho in 4-1 Newcastle win
All of that intelligence and experience was on display against Newcastle.
Particularly in the first half, Jorginho controlled the match, and dictated the pace it was played at. He was always on hand to receive possession, worked hard to win the ball back quickly whenever Newcastle had it, and was progressive with his passing.
One particularly eye-catching pass saw him bypass the visitors’ defensive line in order to pick out the run of Gabriel Martinelli, who was then able to set up Kai Havertz to score.
After the final whistle, plenty of Arsenal fans rushed to X to heap praise on Jorginho. One supporter said, “I would never understand why Jorginho does not start every game.”
Another fan stated, “He is astounding.” Whilst another chipped in with, “We attack so well with him in games.”
One supporter claimed, “I genuinely think that this is our best 11.. Partey is great, but Jorgihno in the No.6 and Rice Left 8 is an insane combo!”
