Arsenal fans believe Declan Rice has lived up to his price tag so far this season.
Arsenal paid a club-record fee of £105 million to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United in the recent summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has hit the ground running at the Emirates Stadium, rapidly establishing himself as an integral figure in the middle of the park. Impressing with his defensive nous, physical prowess, running power, and all-action style, Rice has quickly become a fan favourite at the north London club.
Mikel Arteta has certainly been impressed by what he’s seen from the England man on and off the pitch. The Spanish coach has even tipped Rice to be the club captain one day.
Given the extraordinary figure that the Gunners paid to secure Rice’s services, there were always going to be high expectations for the player. There was plenty of pressure on him to prove worthy of the hefty investment, too.
Arsenal fans certainly feel that Rice is so far proving to have been an excellent purchase. Taking to X, one fan said, “when you were sold/bought for 105 mil, and no one is moaning about the price tag you know you have done your job.”
Another supporter stated that Rice must be considered “an absolute bargain even at that price.” Another said, “no one has talked about his price until now because he totally deserves it.”
One fan insisted, “he’s proved himself he’s worth that price tag.” One other Arsenal fan said, “you have been a blessing Declan. You have done so much for us.”

Declan Rice free of price tag burden at Arsenal
Rice himself has recently spoken publicly about how the price tag has affected him. As quoted by the Daily Mail, the 47-cap England international said, “when the transfer was going through I was very nervous because of the price tag. It’s natural to think about that. You’re a human being bought for £105m, it doesn’t feel very normal. But that was because of what I’d done at West Ham, what they valued me at.”
“When I signed for Arsenal, I just thought I just need to be Declan Rice, be myself, don’t be any different, everything will go smoothly…In terms of the price tag, I don’t really think about it, I just play the games and try to play as well as possible. Honestly, I just try to play my football. I don’t let it affect me in any way, shape or form.”
Arteta will be heartened to hear that Rice doesn’t feel the pressure of the fee that was paid for him weighing on his shoulders. It is certainly obvious, seeing him on the pitch, that Rice feels able to play with freedom at Arsenal.
It is now vital that Rice is able to stay fit and in-form throughout the season. With Thomas Partey seemingly perennially sidelined with injury, Arsenal would be severely lacking in top class midfield options were Rice to succumb to a fitness issue for any significant spell.
