Arsenal finally beat Manchester City to win the Premier League last season.

Pep Guardiola pipped Mikel Arteta to the throne in back-to-back campaigns, but in the last two seasons, the Arsenal manager has come out on top.

Arsenal finished above City in 2024/25 as well as 2025/26, when they finally won the Premier League title.

That brought an end to Guardiola’s time at the club. He resigned even though he had a year left on his contract, and he has finally revealed why.

Speaking to OKX, the Spaniard said: “I had one more year contract, so in terms of that, I could’ve stayed. But I had the feeling that I didn’t have the energy that is required to be at the top, or try to be demanding every three days.”

Arsenal supporters have now had their say on the above comment.

Arsenal fans think Mikel Arteta forced Pep Guardiola into retirement

Arsenal fans are all adamant that Guardiola decided to call it a day at Manchester City because he couldn’t compete with Arteta anymore.

Many believe the student has overtaken the master.

One fan tweeted: “My gaffer sent both Jurgen Klopp and Pep to early retirement. Mikel Arteta, you’ve changed our lives.”

Another wrote: “So what he’s saying in essence is that Mikel Arteta pushed him out of England? Yeah, I got that.”

“Same reason Klopp gave for leaving Liverpool, but the truth is Arteta chased you guys out,” said another.

Another Gooner reacted by saying: “Both Klopp and Pep ‘ran out of energy’ after finishing twice behind Arteta. My manager drove them out.”

“He knew Arteta took his place. Pep never felt like this with Klopp,” wrote another.

Mikel Arteta winning the Premier League before Pep Guardiola’s departure is massive

People knew for years that Arteta would eventually win the Premier League title with Arsenal, but doing it while Guardiola was still against him makes a huge difference.

If the latter had left a year earlier and the Gunners won the title immediately after, everybody would’ve used that to mock Arteta.

However, the fact that the Arsenal manager beat Guardiola to the title against all odds has shut a lot of people up.

Now, Arteta can call himself a Premier League champion without anyone undermining his achievements.
