Arsenal fans have a lot to say after hearing what Virgil van Dijk said following Liverpool’s draw vs Aston Villa

Liverpool have dropped points in the Premier League again in what is a big boost to Arsenal.

The Reds were nine points clear of the Gunners at the top of the table at one point, but that gap could be down to just five if Arsenal beat West Ham United on Saturday.

Arne Slot’s side were held to a 2-2 draw by Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on Wednesday night, and it was clear that Liverpool’s players were disappointed after the game.

Virgil van Dijk was interviewed on TNT Sports before he went back into the dressing room, and it seemed like he almost said ‘credit to Arsenal’ before he corrected himself and said ‘credit to Aston Villa’.

“We should have scored 3-2, but credit to Ars… Aston Villa, they made it very difficult for us, like they always do,” he said.

Arsenal fans were quick to spot that, and many of them took to social media to have their say on what Van Dijk did.

Liverpool have been the favourites to win the Premier League title for a while now, but cracks are starting to appear in recent weeks.

The Reds have dropped four points in their last three games in the league, and Van Dijk’s near-mistake in his interview has convinced Arsenal fans that the Gunners are in his head.

One Arsenal fan said: “Van Dijk got Arsenal on the brain. He deffo said “credit to Arsen- Aston Villa.”

Another wrote: “Van Dijk said credit to Arsenal then changed to Aston Villa in his post-match comment. Why are you panicking lol?”

“Van Dijk almost said Arsenal instead of Aston Villa. We’re in their heads but they’re eight points clear,” tweeted another fan.

Another Gooner wrote: “Arsenal living rent-free in Van Dijk’s head.”

“We’re living rent-free in their heads, players and fans alike,” said another.

Mikel Arteta needs a huge favour from his mentor

Many people felt that the title race was over and Liverpool had won it already, but there could still be a few twists and turns.

The gap between Arsenal and Slot’s side could come down to just five points on Saturday, but the title race will be in Arsenal’s hands again if Pep Guardiola does Mikel Arteta a big favour.

Liverpool’s next game is against Manchester City at the Etihad. A defeat there for the Reds and a win for Arsenal in their game in hand will reduce the gap to just two points.

That would mean that Arsenal will not have to depend on anyone else to win the title.

The Gunners will just have to win their remaining games – including the one against Liverpool at Anfield – and they will become the champions.

However, City are going through a terrible patch, and we’re not convinced that they can pull off a victory against Liverpool on Sunday.
