For all the wrong reasons, Martin Odegaard is the talk of North London after Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United.

Odegaard has been so poor this season, aside from the rare mesmeric performance.

That’s the playmaker’s biggest issue, his lack of consistency, but Arsenal fans think there’s something else about Odegaard that is even more of a critical problem.

At the start of the season, Tony Adams said that Odegaard shouldn’t be the captain, and now, supporters are agreeing with the Arsenal legend more than ever.

Who was Arsenal’s most disappointing player against Man United?

Explain your answer!

Arsenal fans do not want Martin Odegaard to be captain

The Arsenal squad chose Odegaard to be captain, and have made it very clear that the Norwegian is the right man for the job.

While the players are in full support of their skipper, Arsenal fans have seen enough, with tensions hitting their peak after the Gunners’ defeat to Manchester United.

On X, supporters far and wide expressed their concerns about Odegaard being club captain.

“There’s a general consensus that Odegaard should be dropped now. This is our club captain btw. Ridiculous decision to give him the armband in the first place,” one fan posted.

It was an opinion shared by thousands of other X users.

“Odegaard getting hooked yet again. This is our captain. Wasn’t it so smart to constantly drop Eze and let Nwaneri go on loan?! Tony Adams was absolutely spot on about him.”

Another said, “Not a captain, and shouldn’t be starting.”

One fan simply wrote, “Worst captain ever.”

Adams thinks Declan Rice should be captain, which is what other fans believe.

“Odegaard can’t be the captain of this football club with players like Rice and Gabriel on the pitch who are actual leaders.”

Aside from the captaincy argument, one supporter made it clear that they want to see the playmaker sold in the summer transfer window.

“Odegaard ain’t my captain. If he isn’t sold in the summer, I’ll f—— lose it.”

Another claimed that Odegaard ‘doesn’t deserve to be our captain’, while a fellow supporter stated that the Norway international being captain is a sign of weakness.

“Odegaard cannot continue as Arsenal captain. It’s a sign of unseriousness!”

Odegaard was terrible against Man United

The feedback was astoundingly strong, but it’s clear to see why Arsenal fans are at their wits’ end with Odegaard.

No captain should need to be told to step up against a rival and amid a title race, but Odegaard needed encouragement, and even then, he failed to contribute.

Odegaard was shown up by United captain Bruno Fernandes, who, by contrast, recorded an assist, provided two key passes and fired three shots on goal.

Arsenal fans have seen enough from Odegaard, particularly when it comes to seeing the midfielder sport the captain’s armband.

Change won’t happen this season, but from the summer onwards, real questions need to be asked about the 27-year-old’s suitability as Arsenal captain.
