Arsenal fans have given mixed reviews on striker transfer target Viktor Gyokeres after the Champions League clash with Sporting CP.
The Gunners came in with confidence from a win over Nottingham Forest last time out, hopeful of improving their chances in Europe while stringing together successive wins.
That rediscovered swagger resulted in an early goal as Jurrien Timber’s tempting cross found Gabriel Martinelli for an easy finish at the back post.
Kai Havertz added a second before a third was scored by Gabriel Magalhaes, who brought out Viktor Gyokeres’ celebration after.
Sporting caused a small scare to Arsenal through Goncalo Inacio, but Mikel Arteta’s side managed to ride through the pressure.
Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard found the back of the net in the second half to complete a rout in the Champions League.
One of the main talking points from it was Viktor Gyokeres, with Arsenal supporters giving their thoughts on his display amid transfer links.

Arsenal fans react to Viktor Gyokeres performance
Taking to social media, Arsenal fans were left uncertain over Gyokeres’ performance and whether he is good enough to join the club in the future.
The forward didn’t get many big chances and was only able to threaten the Gunners and their backline on a few occasions.
Speaking on X, one fan said: “Gyokeres nowhere to be seen…” while another defended his display, saying: “Gyökeres going to get slated for tonight despite the fact he’s playing under a new manager I’m his game and is up against the best CB partnership in the world. He’s still my number 1.”
One fan showed their admiration with: “I like gyokeres. He’s very very direct. You lose alot in build up with him but he’s got a rocket of a shot and isn’t afraid to shoot. Definitely an option for us.”
Another claimed he couldn’t possibly sign after Gabriel’s celebration: “We can’t sign Gyokeres after that violation.”
One fan claimed that it was a tough game for the striker against such top defenders, claiming: “I’ll chill on Gyokeres tho, it’s hard to pass an audition against one of, if not the best CB partnership in Europe.”
“Gyokeres who??” another added.
Viktor Gyokeres stats vs Arsenal
It was a tough game for Gyokeres to show his true self, taking just five shots with an Expected Goals value of 0.37 overall – via SofaScore.
Even with those few chances, the striker still managed to hit the woodwork and cause a few problems for the defence.
In all though, he made just 40 touches – six of which from kick-offs – displaying how difficult it was to get him into the game.
When Sporting went direct, it appeared to get the best out of the forward, but it was too late by the time they tried that.
Whether Arsenal try to sign Viktor Gyokeres in January remains to be seen, but his performance against Arsenal has left some unsure.
