Many Arsenal fans have now had their say on the prospect of Jorginho signing a new contract with the club.

Joao Santos, agent of Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, has recently publicly spoken out about the player’s current contract situation.

As things stand, talks over new terms are at a “standstill,” with the 31-year-old set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Jorginho himself, though, has not given up hope of extending his deal at the Emirates Stadium.

Jorginho has enjoyed lots of game time so far this season. As Thomas Partey has missed plenty of matches due to injury, the Italy international has already racked up fourteen appearances, across all competitions, eight of which have been starts.

Whilst he undoubtedly has his limitations as a player, he also brings plenty of experience and tactical acumen to the squad. Mikel Arteta is a huge fan of the £110,000-a-week star, and clearly has great deal of faith in him.

Jorginho is certainly a useful player for the manager to have to call upon, but given his age, he hardly represents the long-term future of the club. Sooner or later, he will need replacing, and offering him a new contract may not be the wisest move.

Arsenal fans react to Jorginho contract talk

Plenty of Arsenal fans certainly believe that the north London club ought to be preparing to let the former Chelsea man go.

Taking to X in response to the comments from the midfield veteran’s agent, one fan said, “he has to go.” Another supporter agreed, urging the club to “let him leave on a free.”

Several fans are from convinced that Jorginho is good enough to help Arsenal reach the heights they are aiming for this season. One said, “he’s washed up.”

Some supporters are keen to see Jorginho depart as soon as possible, whilst the Gunners might still be able to fetch a fee for him. One begged the club to “sell this fraud.” Another insisted that Jorginho “needs to leave in January.”

Based on what his agent said, though, Jorginho has no plans to move on in the upcoming winter window. Considering how many injuries the Gunners have suffered so far this season, keeping Jorginho around is a smart move. The likes of Partey, Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, and Oleksandr Zinchenko, amongst others, have all missed matches due to fitness issues.

No matter his long-term future, Jorginho is still set to play a key role for Arsenal this season.
