Two years ago, Arsenal were reportedly interested in bringing Martin Odegaard to the Emirates Stadium – according to El Desmarque and AS, Unai Emery had his eyes on the Norwegian prodigy as a replacement for Mesut Ozil.
Fast-forward to 2021, and not only is Ozil all-but away from Arsenal, but Odegaard is now reportedly wanting a move and is being sought after by the Gunners.
According to Sky Sports, Arsenal have made an approach to Real for the talented 22-year-old, who has asked to leave on loan, and Los Blancos are considering the Gunners’ offer.
Although Ozil’s natural home-grown successor at the Emirates, Emile Smith Rowe, has emerged from the Hale End ranks just in time, there is certainly scope for another creative midfielder at the club.
Odegaard moved to the Bernabeu as a teenager and was instantly lauded as one of the world’s top young prospects.
His progress at the club has been slow, however, and he has spent most of his time out on loan at the likes of Vitesse and Real Sociedad, but it was expected he’d finally become a first-team fixture this term.
This hasn’t been the case, and with just nine appearances – five of which have been starts – all season, it looks as though Odegaard has grown tired of warming the bench.
Needless to say, Arsenal fans are excited about being linked with Odegaard, and have urged the board to get on the case right away:
