Dennis Bergkamp is one of the greatest players to ever grace the game.
The Arsenal legend was already a star before he made his move to the Premier League, and immediately raised the standards at the club upon his arrival.
It wouldn’t be wrong to say that Bergkamp changed the Gunners’ fortunes during his time at the club, and he did it in style as well.
The Dutchman scored a number of eye-catching goals, but the one that always stands out is his strike against Newcastle United.
That incredible goal has given rise to a big debate on social media.

Andros Townsend angers Arsenal fans with his comment on Dennis Bergkamp’s iconic goal
Andros Townsend has no love for Arsenal because of his history with Tottenham Hotspur, but even he must be questioning what he just said.
On ITV, the Spurs hero boldly claimed that Dennis Bergkamp didn’t actually mean his touch that led to his iconic goal against Newcastle United.
Arsenal fans are absolutely livid.
One tweeted: “Did Andros Townsend just – blasphemously! – say that “Bergkamp didn’t mean it”? I take it that Andros was talking about the Newcastle goal. And for the record: Yes, Bergkamp meant every moment of it. See his explanation in ‘Stillness and Speed.'”
Another wrote: “What is Townsend on about? Of course Bergkamp meant that touch and goal against Newcastle. Are you that bitter?”
“So foolish from Andros Townsend. Telling people that ‘even Bergkamp didn’t mean’ that goal against Newcastle. Except Bergkamp himself said he did mean it,” said another.
Another Gooner tweeted: “Townsend needs to watch his mouth.”
“Get Andros Townsend off my flipping TV, man,” said another.

What Dennis Bergkamp has said about his goal against Newcastle United
Many people still think Bergkamp’s strike for Arsenal against Newcastle United is the greatest goal in the history of the Premier League.
The legendary Dutchman used one touch to completely bamboozle Nikos Dabizas. His touch took the ball around the defender on one side while he turned and got on the end of it from the other.
Since then, many have questioned if Bergkamp meant it – he absolutely did.
Speaking to FourFourTwo many years later, he said: “The week after that goal, ‘Did you really mean it?’ was the question everyone was asking me. I couldn’t understand what people meant by the question.
“I didn’t see the goal on television for several days, and so many people were asking me that I thought, ‘OK, I have to see what they saw’. The pass from Pires was slightly behind me and I was adjusting myself to the situation, because I wanted to go through on goal with one touch. I touched the ball, but my body was already turning the other way, so it looked quite good!
“For many goals, players just decide at the last moment what they’re going to do. That was the same with me. I’m glad it looked like that, and that everyone is still talking about it today.”
