Perhaps some Arsenal supporters are still waiting for Santi Cazorla to return to the club, a Spaniard who has remained very close with Mikel Arteta.
You’ll struggle to find many more popular Arsenal players than Cazorla in recent years, a diminutive playmaker who was as good with his left foot as he was with his right.
At Arsenal, Cazorla made 180 appearances and won two FA Cups, and it’s remarkable that the midfielder is still playing football today.
39-year-old Cazorla is captain of Real Oviedo in La Liga 2, his boyhood club who he always wanted to return to one day.
Arsenal fans will perhaps hope that Cazorla one day finds his way back to the Emirates Stadium as a coach, something that’s already been rumoured in the past.
But on recent evidence, there’s no reason to call time on his playing career just yet.
Arsenal icon Santi Cazorla win’s POTM award in stunning two-assist display
Cazorla completed his first 90 minutes of the season for Oviedo last weekend, wearing the captain’s armband.
The Spaniard moves between an attacking midfield or more deep-lying role for his boyhood side, something he also did under Arsene Wenger.

And in a 3-2 win over UD Almeria on Sunday, Cazorla picked up two brilliant assists, demonstrating that he very much still has it.
For those interested, that also earned Cazorla a spot in FC25’s Team of the Week, not something you’ll see every week from a player of his age.
Of course, whilst he was still wearing an Arsenal shirt, Cazorla was regularly joined in midfield by Francis Coquelin, a different type of midfielder.
And Cazorla will be interested to learn that Coquelin is on the cusp of a shock return to English football, something fans in N5 wouldn’t have seen coming.
Martin Odegaard loved watching Santi Cazorla at Arsenal
In similar fashion to Mikel Merino, Cazorla made the switch to the Premier League from La Liga to join Arsenal.
That’s a path that Martin Odegaard also took to north London.
And when speaking about the midfielder in the past, Odegaard labelled Cazorla as an ‘unbelievable’ talent.
“He was an unbelievable player, I remember watching him when I was younger. He was someone I enjoyed watching so much.”
On that note, the Norwegian may be one of many at the club who are biding their time until Cazorla is ready to return as part of Arteta’s coaching team.
