Jamie O’Hara is adamant that Manchester City are favourites to win the Premier League as he remains unconvinced over Arsenal’s quality.
The 10-time Premier League winners currently sit just two points behind Arsenal following the latest round of results.
City managed to secure a late win away at Nottingham Forest; meanwhile, Arsenal just about got the job done at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Fill in the blank: I feel ____________ about Arsenal’s chances of ending Aston Villa’s 11-game win streak…
The Gunners face a huge test in their next outing as they take on Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who have won each of their last 11 Premier League games.
Heading into the New Year, the Premier League title race is really starting to heat up, but O’Hara is convinced City will reign supreme once again.
Jamie O’Hara backs Man City to win the Premier League
Jamie O’Hara is ‘not convinced Arsenal are that great’ following what has been a rather underwhelming December for Mikel Arteta’s team.
The North London club have won five of their seven matches in all competitions; however, performances have not been great.
Arsenal’s lack of cutting edge is worrying fans, with opposition players being their biggest source of goals this month. Only Noni Madueke has scored more than once for the Gunners in December.
Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s side are ready to further boost their title hopes by signing Antoine Semenyo in January and O’Hara thinks this could be decisive.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, the former Spurs midfielder said: “They’re favourites! They’ve been there and done it. They’re two points behind Arsenal.
“Everyone says Arsenal are the favourites? I’m not convinced Arsenal are that great. Own goals have been their best player in December, for sure.
Which Arsenal player needs to step up and top this list in January 2026?
Man City have already shown they know how to get it done. We’ve seen this so many times, after Christmas, Man City put their foot down.
“They’re signing Semenyo, a big statement signing – it strengthens the team. They’re scoring goals, they’ve got Haaland up front, and all the players are improving.
“I’m telling you now, Man City are going to win this Premier League. Arsenal started great, they are not favourites, they have not won the Premier League for a long period of time.”
Jamie O’Hara thinks Arsenal must prove they can beat Aston Villa
O’Hara also believes that Arsenal must prove they can beat Aston Villa on Tuesday as their record against the current top four is poor.
The Gunners have dropped points against Liverpool, Man City, Villa and Chelsea; so at the Emirates Stadium, now is the time to prove they can beat the best teams.
“I think if you want to win the league, you have to beat the best sides. I think they’ve struggled this season against the top teams,” claimed O’Hara.
“They got beaten by Liverpool, they drew with Man City, they got beaten by Villa, so these are moments where Arsenal are like, ‘Right, we’re going to go and win this game, we’re going to go and win this Premier League’.
“When I watch Man City win it, and Liverpool have done it, they’ve beaten the best team, they turn up and win. Arsenal have to beat Villa; it is a massive game for them.”
