Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna is looking forward to the upcoming North London derby.

The Gunners travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on match day four of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

It’s set to be a well-contested fixture in North London, as Arsenal and Spurs prepare to battle for three points and bragging rights.

While there will be some anxiety in the Arsenal camp due to Mikel Arteta’s squad issues, nothing will take away from the occasion of a North London derby.

Bacary Sagna sends Arsenal message ahead of Spurs clash

One former Arsenal player is excited for the upcoming clash between the Gunners and Spurs, as Bacary Sagna took to social media to fire his former club up.

Sagna played against Tottenham more than any other side during his playing career, with a record of 18 appearances, nine wins, four draws and five losses.

The Frenchman is fired up before the derby, as seen when he posted a series of memories from his involvement in the fixture on his Instagram story.

Sagna posted a five-word rallying cry saying, “Time to destroy them again,”, followed by photos of himself in duels with Spurs players over the years.

The former right-back then posted highlights of Arsenal’s 5-2 victory against their rivals back in 2012, a fixture that Sagna scored in.

The North London derby can be a joyous or heartbreaking battle, with Sagna experiencing more wins than defeats to the Lilywhites during his time in the Premier League.

Sagna loved the North London derby

Many icons for both Spurs and Arsenal have made their names in the North London derby, whether it be Thierry Henry never losing one or Harry Kane leading the scoring charts.

In a past interview with GOAL, Sagna reflected on what makes the fixture so special and how it felt to play against Spurs as a Gunner.

“To me, it was always one of the best games of the year, it’s a different way to get ready for the game, it’s a different mentality, different attitude.

“Any game you play should be at 100 per cent, but that game you want to play at 100% for yourself and for the fans because there is no better feeling than winning and seeing the fans going crazy at the end.

“Fortunately, I won more than I lost against Tottenham so I have good memories – and I scored a nice goal against them as well.”

The Arsenal squad today certainly know how to beat Spurs away from home, recording consecutive wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium by an aggregate score of 5-2, how ironic.
