Arsenal beat Porto to reach a first Champions League quarter-final since 2010, and their opponents have now been announced.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been drawn against German Champions Bayern Munich, who beat Lazio in the round of 16 to reach this stage of the competition.

It was a tough round of 16 tie for both quarter-finalists. Arsenal narrowly beat FC Porto on penalties in what was a difficult two-legged affair, whilst Bayern overturned their 1-0 defeat to Lazio from the first leg to win 3-0 in Munich.

Bayern, six-time winners of the competition, will not be easy opponents for Arsenal, and the Gunners will have to be at their best to reach the semi-finals.

When will Arsenal play against Bayern Munich in the Champions League?

Arsenal are set to be at home in the first leg of the Champions League tie, and whilst the dates are yet to be officially announced, it is expected that the Emirates clash will be on Tuesday 9th April, with an 8pm kick off.

With Arsenal facing Aston Villa at home on 14th April, the second leg against Bayern will be on Wednesday 17th April, at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

This will be Arsenal’s first appearance in the quarter-finals since 2010, in which they lost 6-3 on aggregate to Barcelona, and their first clash with Bayern Munich since the round of 16 in 2017, in which they were humiliate 10-2 on aggregate.

Bayern have fallen behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and this could be the first time in a decade that they do not win the league.

Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel took charge of the Bavarians last year, but is set to leave his role in the summer after a disappointing season.

Arsenal will come up against familiar foes in Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who appeared in plenty of North London derbies for Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Arsenal prodigy Serge Gnabry will also be one to watch out for, whilst young sensation Jamal Musiala will be hoping to make his mark on the big stage.

Bayern have plenty of experience in the competition, and Arsenal will have to dig out a positive result in London to take to Munich in what will be a tough away game.
