Arsenal will reportedly be without William Saliba for their massive Premier League clash against Liverpool, with the defender set to miss a second match through injury.

According to journalist Daniel Cutts, the French centre-back is once again absent from training this week having picked up a back injury before the international break, with Saliba missing Arsenal’s recent 4-1 win against Leeds United.

Whilst Rob Holding has impressed as Saliba’s deputy, many Arsenal fans will agree that the former Bolton Wanderers defender might not be up for the task on Sunday against Liverpool, a team the Gunners have not beaten on the road since 2012.

Moreover, with Manchester City travelling to bottom-placed Southampton on Saturday, there’s a good chance that Pep Guardiola’s side could close the gap on Arsenal this weekend, with some supporters believing that the Gunners will lose to Liverpool despite their dreadful form this season.

Indeed, although Arsenal remain favourites, news that Saliba will miss the trip to Anfield due to injury is a huge blow for the Gunners, and Liverpool could soon be licking their lips ahead of what could be a season-defining fixture for both clubs this weekend.

Liverpool away is a fixture that Arsenal fans dread whenever the Premier League schedule is announced, and this upcoming trip to Merseyside could be one that could determine the Gunners’ status as league-challengers, though Saliba’s absence will cause some major problems.

The £27m defender has been a titan for Arsenal this season, and although there’s every chance that Holding will step up again the pressure-cooker atmosphere that is Anfield, many fans could now be expecting the worst with Saliba out of the picture.
