Having beaten Sheffield United 6-0 tonight, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side just made English footballing history, a proud moment for the club.

It was another brilliant night from an Arsenal fan perspective, with Arteta watching on as every single one of his players delivered.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring with a tidy finish in the fifth minute, a goal that remarkably felt as if it had been coming despite the game being so early on.

And that’s when the flood gates opened, Arsenal then found their ruthless stride for the remainder of the first half.

Perhaps Declan Rice produced the best of all the excellent performances, proving his rich ability to play as a number eight.

And whilst Rice broke his own personal record, scoring or assisting 10 times in a Premier League season for the first time, Arsenal went one better.

According to journalist Kaya Kaynak, Arsenal became the first team in the history of England’s top four tiers to win three straight away games by a margin of five goals or more.

Sadly Arsenal may struggle to extend their new record in their next Premier League away match.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side travel to Manchester City at the end of the month, and a win by five goals at the Etihad would be a piece of footballing history of its own.

It would seem easy for Arsenal to get carried away after a series of such dominant performances.

However, Arteta will keep his players’ feet on the ground, he knows nothing has been achieved yet.

And as much as the Arsenal manager will enjoy this piece of footballing history against Sheffield United tonight, he’ll be much more interested in winning trophies.

And with just the Premier League and the Champions League still up for grabs this season, Arsenal will now need to be pretty flawless.

All that being said, former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has now suggested that the club should buy a £100m midfielder to take things one step further in the summer.
