Arsenal have begun the new year just like they ended 2024 – with a win in the Premier League.

The Gunners had to travel to the Gtech Community Stadium to take on Brentford on New Year’s Day. That is a really difficult place to go to – the Bees have been really impressive there.

Bryan Mbeumo gave the hosts the lead despite early dominance from Arsenal. It just felt like one of those days again at that point.

However, Gabriel Jesus, Mikel Merino and Gabriel Martinelli’s goals sealed a very good win for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal finally end frustrating 683-day run in away Premier League games

Arsenal are usually the favourites to win every game they play – be it at the Emirates or away from home.

The Gunners are among the best clubs in the world, and on their day, they are capable of blowing any team away irrespective of the venue.

One of the best traits of Arteta’s Arsenal is how fast they start games. When the Gunners score first, they usually go on to win that fixture.

However, in away games in the better part of the last two years, Arsenal have failed to turn things around if they went a goal behind in the Premier League.

The 4-2 win against Aston Villa at Villa Park in February 2023 was the last time Arteta’s men won a game after going behind – 683 days before the clash against the Bees.

That run finally ended on New Year’s Day as Arsenal beat Brentford 3-1 after going a goal down in the first half. We’re so glad that stat is behind the Gunners now.

Arsenal continue another incredible record

Arsenal have been incredibly dominant in London derbies since the start of last year.

In the whole of 2024, the Gunners won eight, drew two and lost none of their 10 games against opponents from the capital.

That fantastic record continued on New Year’s Day following Arsenal’s well-deserved 3-1 win over Brentford at the Gtech.

Arsenal’s next game against a London-based club is against Tottenham Hotspur in a couple of weeks. That is a massive clash, one that Arteta will be desperate to win.
