Arsenal just inadvertently exposed exactly why Florian Wirtz is struggling so much at Liverpool

As Liverpool struggle, so does Florian Wirtz, who looks miles away from being at his best in the Premier League.

Interestingly, Arsenal were interested in Wirtz during the summer, before the Germany international made his way to Anfield.

Since joining Liverpool, things have been abhorrently tough for Wirtz, who is constantly shoved under the microscope as he continues to find his feet.

It’s been 11 Premier League games with no goal contributions for Liverpool’s £116.5m man, and Arsenal have the answer as to what’s going wrong.

Arsenal have mastered the trick that is limiting Florian Wirtz

It’s actually a blessing for Arsenal that Wirtz hasn’t hit the ground running, as everyone knows what the playmaker is capable of.

Though the Gunners missed out on signing him, they did sign their own attacking midfield solution, welcoming Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.

Eze starred in the North London Derby, netting a hat-trick, and after the game, Joe Hart was inspired to form a comparison between how the Englishman has settled at Arsenal and Wirtz’s ongoing issue.

“He looks really, really settled. His teammates are starting to believe in him,” Hart said of Eze to BBC Sport, then mentioning Wirtz.

“That’s something that I talk about a lot, and it was something that I thought about with Florian Wirtz at Liverpool, especially when you’re in that attacking position that he’s in. The team needs to work out how to play with you.”

It was initially pondered whether Eze and Wirtz could have the same problem, but it has now become clear that Arsenal successfully integrated their playmaker.

Due to the understanding of his teammates, Eze can play with freedom and conviction while remaining regimented to suit Arteta’s demands, something Liverpool still can’t seem to crack with Wirtz.

Thierry Henry’s interesting take on Wirtz

The Wirtz situation is complicated, more so than Eze’s, as the Englishman arrived Premier League-ready, switching from Crystal Palace to Arsenal.

How many goals will Eberechi Eze score for Arsenal this season?

There’s always expected to be an adaptation period for players arriving in England for the first time, and Thierry Henry thinks making the move from the Bundesliga is one of the most testing journeys.

“I always have a question mark over people who perform in Germany,” Henry said on Sky Sports.

“That’s only me, I’m not saying they won’t perform in another league, I’m just saying because of the way the league is there, really stretched, if you can run well, you’re going to have a lot of opportunities, goals and assists. People can run with you in this league, so it’s very difficult.”

As time goes on, Eze’s move looks more and more impressive, as it looks as though Arsenal made the right decision to recruit a player of his role from within the Premier League.
