A number of former Arsenal stars have now taken the step into management since hanging up their boots, to varying degrees of success.

Of course, current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta used to represent the North London club in the middle of the park in his own playing days.

Arsenal icon Thierry Henry was most recently in charge of the France Olympics team at the summer Games in Paris, whilst Cesc Fabregas is at the helm for Italian outfit Como.

Patrick Vieira is another Arsenal legend to have tested himself as a manager.

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira set for Genoa job

Since retiring as a player, the former Arsenal captain has taken charge at New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, and Strasbourg.

The Frenchman is now set for a new challenge, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X.

The journalist revealed: “Genoa appoint Patrick Vieira as new head coach to replace Alberto Gilardino. Agreement done as Vieira will start work at Genoa this week.”

Vieira has not yet enjoyed the same success in management that he achieved as a player. The former midfielder won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups in his time on the books at Arsenal, amongst numerous other honours in his career, including the 1998 World Cup.

Vieira was a true leader at Arsenal, and is still seeking to translate those skills into his coaching efforts.

If the 48-year-old ever manages to crack the code and flourish as a coach, then many Arsenal fans would love to see him eventually take charge at the Emirates Stadium.

Vieira to work with former Hale End academy star Brooke Norton-Cuffy

When Vieira arrives at Genoa, he will find a player with an Arsenal connection waiting for him.

Having come through the club’s Hale End academy system, Brooke Norton-Cuffy joined the Serie A side on a permanent basis in the recent summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old right-back was highly thought of in North London, and was even branded a “wonderkid” by Goal back in 2022.

He impressed on various loan spells whilst he was on the Arsenal books, gaining valuable experience in the EFL across stints with Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Coventry City, and Millwall.

However, Arteta never afforded Norton-Cuffy his senior debut at Arsenal, and the youngster ultimately left the club in order to test himself abroad. Vieira will now be tasked with helping the defender to reach his full potential.
