Arsenal loanee Charlie Patino names key Swansea mentors

Arsenal youngster Charlie Patino is learning a great deal whilst on loan at Swansea.

Talented teenage midfielder Charlie Patino joined Championship outfit Swansea City on a season-long loan switch from Arsenal in the recent summer transfer window.

At one stage, the 19-year-old looked set to leave the north London club on a permanent basis. However, the Gunners were able to convince him to stay, and only let him depart on a temporary agreement.

Now plying his trade in the second tier of English football, Patino has quickly established himself as a key figure for the Welsh side. He is now a regular starter, with nine appearances under his belt, and he has also managed to chip in with one goal and three assists.

Mikel Arteta will be keeping a keen eye on Patino’s development throughout his time at Swansea. The youngster is certainly someone that the manager has a degree of faith in, having handed him his first team Arsenal debut in an EFL Cup clash in December 2021. Patino scored in that game, further ingratiating himself with the Emirates Stadium faithful. 

Patino learning from the best

Regular football is what Patino needs at this stage in his development. He spent last season on loan with Blackpool, and he is now learning plenty at Swansea.

The midfielder recently discussed how he feels his time with the Swans in going. Speaking to the club’s official website, the England under-21 international said, “I am loving being here…It’s great working with and learning from payers like Matt Grimes, Jay Fulton and Joe Allen who have so much experience at this level. They know the game in my position inside and out. It’s going to help me develop on and off the pitch. I want to keep improving.”

The likes of Allen certainly have plenty to teach Patino. The 33-year-old former Liverpool man is a very talented player, and his insight could prove crucial to someone like Patino at this stage in his development as a player.

Arteta will be hoping that the youngster learns enough from this experience to be able to come back to the Emirates Stadium ready compete for a place in the Arsenal first team squad.
