Arsenal loanee Miguel Azeez has been handed a fine and a one-game ban for an incident that took place on his debut for Wigan Athletic earlier this month.
The talented 20-year-old midfielder spent the first half of the season on loan in Spain, at UD Ibiza. After starting just eight games there, he was recalled and sent out on loan to Wigan, where Arsenal Invincible Kolo Toure was in charge.
Toure lost his job this week, and Azeez has now been banned for a game.
Arsenal loanee Miguel Azeez fined and banned after flare incident
Miguel Azeez returned to Arsenal from Ibiza on the fourth of January and less than a week later, a deal was agreed with Wigan for the Championship side to sign him on loan until the end of the season.
Just four days after joining the Latics, Azeez made his debut against Cardiff City away from home.
He came on as a substitute for the second half and helped Wigan secure a very late draw thanks to a goal from Will Keane in the 96th minute of the game.
During the celebrations, Azeez spotted a flare thrown onto the pitch. The Arsenal loanee, according to the BBC, picked it up and threw it back onto the ground.
He was charged with improper conduct a few days later, which he admitted, and he has now been given a one-game ban that will see him miss the Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers on the sixth of February.
The FA Spokesperson’s account on Twitter also revealed that he has been fined £1,250 for his actions.
