Arsenal failed to get past Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

The Gunners were very confident of turning things around against the French giants despite losing the first leg 1-0 at the Emirates.

Arsenal took the game to PSG and completely dominated them in the first 20 minutes of the second leg. But, Luis Enrique’s side were more clinical and got the job done.

Following the defeat, Mikel Arteta claimed that Arsenal were the better side against PSG. That assessment has not gone down well in France.

Mikel Arteta, unsurprisingly, was heartbroken after the defeat to PSG.

The Spaniard’s players did everything on the pitch, and if they were more clinical, they would’ve breezed past the Ligue 1 giants.

But, PSG did what Arsenal couldn’t – convert their chances – and won the game.

Even on Friday, a couple of days after the defeat, Arteta adamantly claimed that Arsenal deserved to win the game in Paris.

His stance has not changed, but people in France are not too pleased with how the Arsenal manager has been reacting since the defeat.

Former France international Jerome Rothen said on the Rothen S’enflamme podcast: “Listen, Arteta, I’m disappointed with his reaction, and I understand that there’s frustration and anger, especially after the match. We saw him very angry with the French press.

“We had a debate about it, right after, I think he took a tactical lesson from Luis Enrique in the match. He made up for it in the first half but it didn’t last the entire match either in the first half, but one half out of four is not enough to be able to hope to qualify.

“He showed that he’s a good coach, a really good coach, that he’s learned a lot over the last few years, and that this team isn’t yet mature; maybe there’s still room for improvement, even from him.

“It’s the same way of thinking of many Spanish coaches. Arteta, he’s in the same mould as Pep Guardiola. They’ll tell you they’ll find a solution because of the team, because of the tactics. I’ll invent something, because sometimes it works very well, there’s no problem.

“Sometimes, it takes time for the Spaniard to surrender. That’s to face the facts, and with Arteta, I think that’s why I say, maybe he lacks a little maturity.

“I think that now, it’s time to mature, to face the facts that, man, you may be a very good coach. There’s no doubt about it. You’ll have to find something else. And it’s the big ones who do that.”

It’s crazy how often Arteta’s comments are taken out of context.

Almost every time the Arsenal manager says something, it is blown out of proportion, and everyone seems to have an opinion about it.

During his media duties after the game in Paris, the first thing Arteta did was congratulate PSG. After that, the Spaniard claimed that his side was better, but PSG were more efficient in the boxes, which is why they went through.

That is not just an opinion, but it’s a fact!

Arsenal accumulated an xG of 5.11 against PSG’s 3.08. That shows that the Gunners had a better chance of winning, but PSG were just more efficient in front of goal, which is exactly what Arteta said.
