Tom Canton has now shared his verdict on what Arsenal must do to win the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool this season.
Arsenal currently find themselves in the thick of a three-horse title race, alongside league leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City.
As things stand, Mikel Arteta’s side are level on points with Manchester City, who hold a game in hand, and are two points behind Liverpool. The Gunners closed the gap on the Reds with their recent 3-1 win against them at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal emerged as surprise title contenders last season, and have maintained that status into the current campaign. However, they are still very much underdogs when compared with the all-conquering winning machine that is Manchester City.
Liverpool are the only club to have beaten Pep Guardiola’s side to a title in recent years, and the Merseyside outfit are currently riding on the crest of a wave of emotion, as they now know that this will be Jurgen Klopp’s final season at the helm.
As such, the Gunners will have to produce something truly special in order to be crowned champions come the end of the campaign. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville wants to see Arsenal win the league, but would not consider them favourites.

What Arsenal must do to win the Premier League title
Tom Canton, speaking on The Gooner Talk podcast, has now told Arsenal what one thing they need to do in order to win the league this season. He said, “if you’re going to win the league, then you’ve got to beat your rivals that you’re challenging, and we didn’t do that last season with City. We lost to them at home, and we lost to them away…and this season, Liverpool being one of the main rivals as well, we’ve beaten them, we didn’t lose at their place, and we’ve beaten Manchester City this season as well in the league.”
Arsenal will travel to the Etihad Stadium on March 31st, for what looks likely to be monumentally important Premier League clash. Looking ahead to that crucial fixture, Canton said, “do Arsenal have to win that game? Probably, to win the title.”
Of course, if Arsenal fail to win their matches between now and that meeting between the two clubs in the north-west, then it will all matter very little by then. Arsenal cannot win the title before they face Manchester City, but they can certainly lose it.
That is why, as important as beating Manchester City for a second time this season would be, right now the most vital thing is that the Gunners claim all three points when they travel to Burnley this weekend. Arteta will know that his players need to not get carried away, and must approach the rest of the season on a game-by-game basis.
